2018 British Car Fayre

Thanks to all who brought a bike to the 2018 Car Fayre!

John Langstrom’s 1951 Vincent Comet won the award as the best bike.

It’s rare, complete, original and he rode it to the show.  Hard to beat that.  But it was a tough choice!

Although the British Car Fayre did not have honorable mentions or second and third place, there were a number of remarkable motorcycles there.

Among them was the immaculately restored 1969 BSA Rocket 3 triple belonging to Paul Joyce who rode it to the show from Fayette County, if I recall correctly.  I hope he joins our club and comes to the rally.

And, of course who cannot love the Egli Vincent that GANOA member Tom Hill rode to the show.  No, an Egli Vincent is not technically an original, its more of a composite like a Triumph Metisse, or my Street tracker (T140 engine, trackmaster frame made from 4130 Chrome Molly tubing), it is everything a Vincent would have been had they still been manufacturing them in the 1970s.  Hell, Jay Leno has one!  If its good enough for Jay Leno, it should be good enough for Tom Hill.

And let’s not forget GABMA member Sybrand Siertsema.

We all should take a good look at his 1972 Triumph Bonneville.  It was obviously a labor of love for him and is also a well restored beauty, with the original points ignition!  Now I recognize that the first few years of the oil in frame Triumphs are not favored by all, but my first British bike was a 1971 Bonneville that I rode and restored over the years.  I had it when I joined GABMA and it was a rolling restoration that eventually was the rally bike we gave away in the not too distant past.  And I don’t care what anyone says, that was a great handling bike, and it started first kick, every time, as long as no one else was around.

There were many other great bikes there, too many to mention here.  Thanks to all that participated in the British Car Fayre!

Here’s more pics!

We had a visit from Andrew Staunton, the British Consul General!   He has a cool business card, no?  Make Great Britain Great again!

The usual suspects!

This is perfect!  Tiger loves convertibles and her favorite colour is orange!  I wonder what they’ll give us in trade for her Toyota Solara!

Dos mas fish y chips!

My old street tracker!  The Harley guys love the sound of  it!

Larry Anderson’s slightly modified 1965 Bonneville that he bought almost new.  (It didn’t always look like this.)

The Underwood family’s joint effort to restore a 1970 BSA Lightning.  Robert furnished the labor, yours truly the $$$.

My nearly original 1970 Bonneville.  I replaced all the cad-plated bolts with stainless, slight buffed with steel wool to look like cadmium!

Not Paul.  He got all his hardware re-cad plated!  The man is meticulous to a fault!

Paul Reifsnyder and his Norton Commandos:

Tom’s Egli Vincent!

A nice Norton rider!

1951 Vincent Comet!

Send your pictures of this event to [email protected] and I will try to post them on the website.

Member Profile – Sybrand Siertsema back in the day!

Our member Sybrand Siertsema  on his 1957 Tiger 100, circa May 1961, setting the fastest lap at Zandfoort, the Netherlands, at 1:59:04!  Sybrand modified the Tiger for racing with special camshaft, dual carbs, and a close ratio gearbox!  He has been a very active member for many years, but way too modest!  I never knew he was a racer until he showed up at the Great American Motorcycle Show with the same helmet and this picture on a Dutch motorcycle magazine!

Thanks for sharing with us Sybrand!  We would welcome other back in the day photos from our members!

New Monthly Meeting Location!

Fellow members:

As you know, attendance fell off when we moved to Manuel’s Tavern.  It is just too difficult to get to nowadays due to traffic and parking is not much better than what we faced in Norcross.  It just isn’t the same as it was in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Our next meeting will be February 14, 2018 (yes, I know its Valentine’s day but this conflict only happens about once every 7 years) and will be at the Hudson Grille, Brookhaven, 4046 Peachtree Road NE, Brookhaven, GA in the North Atlanta Shopping Center 30319, phone 404-233-0313.
We have the smaller of the two private rooms.
Kudos to member Warren Hatfield for his work in getting this done!

And now the Best British Bike, Andrew Delany’s 1956 Ariel Red Hunter NH. This bike was owned by Andrew’s father who took his girlfriend (Andrew’s Mom) on dates with it in London back in the day. The bike was restored by Randy Huyett at British American. Now Andrew’s sons are vying to be the next owner! Great bike to represent British Motorcycling in its heyday.
